Hello, I’m using a throwaway because my main account has some identifying info if someone wanted to try really hard to get me into trouble and I’m taking no risks here.
We have a newer HR guy, and I was a little worried with how young he was (early 20s) because of his lack of experience, but everyone starts somewhere right?
Yesterday I learned through a friend who used to work here in a different part of the building that HR told a coworker in her department that her mental illness wasn’t real and that she was “just adjusting to adulthood”. I was fucking floored. I have diagnosed mental illnesses as well as physical disabilities and hearing this immediately made me feel unsafe. My coworkers have also experienced other ways he’s been a bit of an asshole and I can go into detail if anyone wants – they’re just not as severe as this incident was.
I know it sounds like a game of telephone – I’m planning on getting more information later if I get the advice to try and take action. But who do you report HR to? Is it even worth it to try? I just want to make a difference in my work place and I want to protect myself. I know HR is there for the company and not for the employees. I don’t want to give up on this job, I don’t want to be complacent and not even try.
Any advice would be appreciated. I literally don’t know where to start or how. TIA!
