The hotel company I work for decided to fire the entire restaurant staff (FOH and kitchen) without warning per HR because the building is under renovation, any chance for retaliation?

I work for a hotel restaurant that had a scheduled renovation at the end of last year where nobody was told what would happen to their jobs during the renovation, no official email or notice was made regarding the exact dates, or what would happen to our jobs during and after renovations. At first we were hearing whispers about a two week break, but again no explanation as to what would happen to staff, I assume most expected to have their job by the time renovations were complete and also assume they said two weeks to keep staff from prematurely jumping ship. Nobody knew until the last week before closing that it was actually expected to close for several months (3-4 months approximately) and nearly 3 weeks into being under renovation, all but a skeleton crew of restaurant staff was let go. Nobody knew until the last week before closing that it was actually expected to close for several months (3-4 months approximately) and nearly 3 weeks into being under renovation, all but a skeleton crew of restaurant staff was let go. Literally dozens of people suddenly jobless and told best of luck, some of which had been working for the restaurant for several years.

I’m hearing that hotel managers haven’t been in touch with corporate for weeks now, was what they did even legal? I’ve never seen an entire team get dissolved in a matter of hours and was one of the few people who did not get the call.

Now I’m currently overworked because I and the remaining staff are forced to carry the weight of having absolutely no staff left as we serve dinner out of our breakfast bar, a much smaller operation with more work, more responsibilities, and significantly less money since it’s almost exclusively hotel guests and the hotel only has x amount of rooms available due to the renovations.

What are my options aside from outright quitting? I’m FT and just enrolled with their healthcare kinda need this job rn but cant stand with a company that fired an entire team that was expecting to be able to return to work.
