So I work in a shipping warehouse. I am the receiving manager and have been since I was promoted on Oct 10th. I was hired as a box runner on Nov of last year and since then was upgraded to stock hand and eventually promoted to receiving manager as I am today. I have to oversee and keep track of the receiving end of the warehouse as well as the stock area (2/3 warehouse sections, lets call them A B &D). I am in charge of A which is receiving and B the back stock area) i have more than enough things to do during the day. As a box runner, I was often bored. Eventually, I found that pallets in the B zone needed a lot of date organization. I began to spend a lot of time in the B zone because it added more variety in my day. Around this time, my boss was having issues with the former receiving manager, well call him M. M would always leave the warehouse and join his coworker (L) to help him complete his tasks, which was maintenance and logistics. This wasn't part of M's job but according to him “there was nothing to do.” Everyone knew that wasn't true. Because of this conflict, my boss gave me the receiving position as well as the responsibility of keeping zone B organized. Remember, this is more of a workload that M was ever given, and even any past receiving manager. I was told I have the skills needed for that position and that I'd do better than M. M was moved to logistics alongside L. It worked out and everyone was happy, I find I am being asked to complete tasks that I used to do as a new hire. The reasoning is because “nobody else has time,” or “its your job.” I was told I'd oversee B, but they didn't specify what that meant. As I said before, I already have significantly more things to do than M did. I already have my hands full, and on top of that, the warehouse is literally filled to the brim with pallets, so I am already drowning in those too. The stockhand position has a high turnover rate because those who apply are old and can't keep up with the physical labor. They have 15 people in zone D at all times, any one of them can do it. Additionally, I started with pay at $12/hr last year. It was bumped to $13 at 6 months and then in July, was changed to $15 (entire company got a raise because they were losing employees). when the companywide raise was introduced, a pay grade spread sheet was also introduced. $15 was starting pay, an additional .50 was added for year(s) working plus position. Because my supervisors deliberately told me in AUGUST, I should be making at least $16, or $16.50/hr. I make $15 doing 2.5 to 3 jobs. I've become resentful to my associates and supervisors and I refuse to do the additional tasks I'm asked to do. I get the company is short handed, everyones busy etc etc, but that to me, invalidates my needs and emotions as an employee there. If I complain then I'm told I need to suck it up. If they need it that much, they can get it themselves. I got legitimate shit to do. (I originally posted this is the r/AITA but I wanted to see what y’all thought of it here.)
