Layoffs Intentional to Teach Vocal Employees “Who’s Still in Charge”?

I'm not a big conspiracy theorist but if most signs are indicating the economy is actually improving, what's the fucking impetus to lay off thousands of people with the given reason being “the economy” whenever asked? IF I wanted to teach my employees in general who's really in charge and it's not a seller's market anymore I'd just layoff a shit ton, get the remaining to kiss my ass again and stop with all the “pro-union, better pay, no more work from home” talk, and hire back who I needed after the fact (once I reset their vacation time, PTO, etc back to day one, that is). Seems a little odd…
