I quit a job making a few dollars more because of rampant drug use and not wanting to go back down that road.
Has ash interview with a bar owner, known in the area for 25 years.
He refused to post an actual wage and wanted to start me under the table. Said he would give me so much cash and then 200$ on the books. Him and his wife took me out to eat at a nice place to try to show the “vibe” they were looking for. Wined and dined me then offered me 500 to start. He didn’t specify when he would give it to me.
I started working there and turned out it’s a little dive bar. They pour water in the liquor bottles, refuse to throw away food and pull mold off things and put new Day dots on everything.
After a few days he gave he an envelope with the bonus he offered.
I decided it wasn’t going to work there and quit after my first paycheck because he lied about my pay and hours. I turned in everything I owe. The only form I ever filled out was an application. I never filled out a w2 or I9. Everyone there is under the table.I quit today and he went ballistic. He’s threatening to sue me if I don’t give back the money. He has only sent me a picture of my app and said “we can do this one of 2 ways” but he would be putting himself out there fire paying people under the table plus I know all the violations he’s violated. Should I just ignore him? I’m not replying because I don’t want to argue with him or tell him he lied to me too or shorted me. He has video proof of me working but again it would just show that he’s paying us all under the table.
There’s no evidence of him giving me the money. I know I don’t owe that guy shit because I worked 10X7 hour days my first week and didn’t get what was promised and he just complained about bills. He would just end up spending more money trying to sue anyway.
Should I just ignore him or try to work with him? Thank god I quit after 2 weeks and didn’t stay.
