When a service worker says “thank you for waiting,” say “thank you for working.”

today i went to a post office in a downtown city neighborhood, there was one woman working and a constant stream of people. i was lucky to first walk in at a time where only two people were in front of me. i waited about 5 minutes and then she told me that i needed to write out my address and tape over it multiple times since i wasn’t going to pay for express (i was under the impression they printed stickers, i was wrong but did not complain), to which i asked for a marker, she provided. i thanked her and while i was writing my address and older woman who was in front of me was repacking her package as well. she asked for the marker and i asked to borrow her roll of tape and we talked our vday gifts and got back in line. we waited…
