My unemployment experience so far

Recently I lost my job, I had it for a few months and lost it under real circumstances I couldn’t control. I called the unemployment office and the operator said it wasn’t a big deal since I was still under my previous job and I still would get payments from them. I got a phone call about a week later and it was the office asking the specifics on my firing. I explained the details (basically horrendous training and under qualifications), and they said they had to check. A week later I was told I was clear, but my payments weren’t coming because I needed to identify myself. I asked what was needed, they told me I needed a utility bill under my name (live at home and my dad goes ballistic at anyone suggesting someone else being on the bills), or my social security card or birth certificate along…

I got a phone call about a week later and it was the office asking the specifics on my firing. I explained the details (basically horrendous training and under qualifications), and they said they had to check.

A week later I was told I was clear, but my payments weren’t coming because I needed to identify myself. I asked what was needed, they told me I needed a utility bill under my name (live at home and my dad goes ballistic at anyone suggesting someone else being on the bills), or my social security card or birth certificate along with photo id.

I used my short (card version) birth certificate for my job, so I thought I could use that since my ss card and full birth certificate was lost in a fire. Traveled to a career center (their website was down), was told it wasn’t enough, but they tried anyway to save me a trip.

Found out yesterday that it isn’t and I need to travel to my birth town to get my full certificate, which is an hours drive, but could have been much worse. And was told to email my birth certificate to the state for them to process which I absolutely would not do in any circumstances.

So when I got back to the career center and told the same woman what happened, she was absolutely furious that I was told to email it as it’s illegal to do this. She then had me hold the certificate in two different angles to verify and then sent it again and told to wait two more days to see if I will even start to get paid.

I wanted to warn you about it and thought this was fitting.
