So I was wondering why my former boss only hired minors, but it's because he takes their tips (and minors would be less aware that it's wage theft) if they don't reach a quota and that quota is unreachable especially in winter. He also evades taxes because he tried to get me into it but I said no because I wanted to pay taxes and get my proper refund. Also I filed an UI claim on my part but it didn't work out because apparently the monetary amount wasn't reached but I'm pretty sure he excluded some of my earnings. He hides behind a nice guy mask and does all these shady things honestly.
Edit: Also I feel like these practices are common especially in Chinese oriented workplaces. Not being racist because I'm also Chinese lol. One time I had a tutoring job that I barely started because they never even provided me with my schedule or told me where to get it. I was not paid for training and once I started the job I was a minor at the time and they pulled out a calculator and said you will earn $8/hr although the minimum wage was $15/hr
