A lot of privileged boomers and etc like to say “Get out there and make something of yourself!” like there aren’t substantial socioeconomic obstacles to success

When you’re rich, success is a choice. You hire tutors. You sign up for extracurriculars. You buy more than one try at standardized tests. You pay for college applications. You pay your college expenses and get your degree. Etc. When you’re disadvantaged, you don’t even get these opportunities. You don’t get tutors. You don’t get to do extracurriculars to the full extent of your abilities. You can’t afford to take the ACT more than the one free time your school provides. You can’t afford college apps. You can’t afford an apartment, tuition, nor books and fees. If only rich people understood this. Success is a choice only for the rich and advantages. Most others never even get the same chances.
