So I used to be an Assistant General Manager, despite my position I ALWAYS put my crew's needs before the store and the GM hated that and would always talk to me to tell me the sales and the store are above all else. Well one time I was talking to a crew member and they were talking about how they were gonna have to quit in a month. He had been working there for over a year and I knew he was eligible for a week paid vacation so I told him not to let that go to waste and use it before he leaves. He was confused, for some reason he has no idea we even got pto.
I was baffled as I assumed they went over this in orientation so I went around asking a lot of the crew if they were aware and NONE of them knew. I was shocked, are they not telling them? So I went in the systems and found everyone who was eligible and let them know discreetly. Then let the others know when they would hit a year.
My GM was FURIOUS at me for this. He was pissed bc we were short staffed and now people were asking about pto. I told him they should've been aware about it since orientation. Then next thing I knew a bunch of people were coming to me upset that I lied, apparently when people asked if him for the pto he would tell them only managers could get it (which was a lie) and I corrected it by saying no everyone's eligible. Then I had people saying he told them they had to work minimum 40 hours a week… Another lie. I was so upset I just told everyone to call HR in waves to complain about this…
In the end I left the job telling my GM that there's no hope for me to move up in the company as it is expected to allways put the store and sales first and I cannot ever put a brick building before human beings lives.
