Yesterday, I seemingly randomly got a gift card from my employer for this Nordic Spa place. I thought to myself “meh, I guess it's technically better than a pizza party”. About an hour later, my department got told that they were looking for volunteers this weekend to work in another department as it is a holiday weekened/busiest weekend of the year. I am in the maintenance side of things, and this is a service side that we are needed for because the people that work there are seasonal and often just randomly decide not to show up to work and they end up understaffed. We were told by our supervisor that it would be good to get some volunteers before we are inevitably voluntold by the owner (which I know would be true). I laughed to myself, thinking that this Nordic spa was intended to butter us up to work this weekend. Did a little research at home, found out that the gift card's value is literally just to get you in the door. Then, I found out that the place has a $50 off promotion for my place of work, so it is likely that my company had been given these gift cards for free. Then, I learned that the spa place is under criminal investigation and facing lawsuits. At least it wasn't a pizza party. I never expect to get any little bonus so I am not mad, just bitterly amused.
