I work in jewelry sales, (a purple branded jewelry company based out of California, but now has stores in AZ, NM, and TX) and we sell high ticket (ordinary at best) jewelry. Anywhere from $200 – $15,000 jewelry pieces.
During my interview, they promised that I could make a lot of money and move up in the company, but now that Ive worked there for a few weeks, I see that’s a lie.
I have $3000 in sales so far in 2 weeks, and my commission is only $15.
I sold a $1000 ring yesterday and only made $5 from it.
This is the catch, I only make the commission if the company hits their monthly goal. If they don’t, we don’t make any commission.
Not to mention we only make $14 an hour. We have to sell jewelry, be in the store an hour before it opens and 30 minutes after it closes, take trash out, clean bathrooms, pierce ears, and do bank drops.
I’m so pissed at the lies they fed me in the interview, that I’ve started to show up for work late, take longer breaks, and do the absolute bare minimum to get through the day.
