I’m currently preparing for a move to a different state to a beach town. My contract at my current job ends tomorrow and I’ve been living in employee housing so my plan is to move to my friend’s house in said beach town. I’ve been applying like crazy for different jobs, but the market has been really tough. My primary skill is dog grooming/training/and pet care but I’ve also owned my own business and managed several businesses over time.
My resume is a little spotty because I have Bipolar disorder and if a job isn’t working with my illness I find myself finding other work. Currently, I run the office for The organization I work for and have been on contract since June but after a mental health episode that led to a hospital stay I decided not to renew my contract. To be clear I’m leaving on good terms and today at an all hands meeting they were sure to put in good woods for me, told me how much they appreciated me, and how excited they are for my new journey.
Today I received a call for an application I put into a high-end boutique by the ocean. (Think $2000 dollar dresses.) The pay looked good ($20/hr plus benefits) so I applied as I have clothing retail experience.
It was the owner and she rattled off some things about wanting me to interview even though my resume was “all over the place” but that she believes that if you “really want to do something you’ll find a way to make it work”. She then went on to say that they’re “old school” and “laid back” but then said that they can be intense sometimes.
She said it was a full-time sales position but that “the employees do more than sales and kind of do everything for the store.” I agreed to the interview which is Wednesday at 1pm, literally the day after I move to the town.
I need a job but this is giving me some serious red flags. It sounds like employees are being hired for one thing but end up doing way more than their job description and I’m getting some serious conservative business owner vibes which has ALWAYS put me in a bad position.
I don’t think I should do the interview but I’m not sure how to turn it down! Thoughts?
