I am a teacher and do not make a lot of money. My fiancé works as an assistant stage manager for a startup based in New York (but we are in a different state.) she has worked there for two and a half years and been the ideal worker for that whole period. Due to her making much more than me she is the primary bread winner. Two days ago the company did mass layoffs and demoted ALL of their full time associates and ASMs. She took a huge pay cut, lost her hours, and her benefits that are sorely needed.
This company is constantly toting their “progressive” ideology about paying fair wages, etc. But now they’re taking it all back and screwing hundreds of people. We are scrambling to make ends meet. I am so sick and tired of being taken advantage of, let alone my poor fiancé who feels trampled over.
Fuck that company and fuck capitalism.
