I had a friend/coworker who left her position to persue a job in the financial sector. She had a business degree and was going to go into selling retirement plans.
Before she started I warned her about if she was sure it wasnt a scam: that they required her to get lisenced and pass several tests for several months (no pay, out of pocket) to get a job with a tiny base pay but everything made on commissions. But she got her degree in finance and assured me thats just how the industry is.
A few months later I check in on here and she is in dire straights.
It turned out she was making no money because she was making no commissions. She got a new job at another firm, but the day before her last day they rescinded her offer. Why? She forgot to pay off a small amount on a target card she forgot she had and it messed up her credit score which was a requirement for a finance job.
What burned me up is she was blaming herself, like it was all her fault. I keep telling her its a scam but she insists its just 'the nature of the industry'
Yes, it is. It really is
