Handed in my resignation and suddenly it was possible to take PTO at the time I requested

I started doing bike delivery after school until I figure out what to do next & to earn some money on the side. Since this job was only temporary for me from the beginning (as well as it is for everyone else on the team), I went to apply for an internship. I knew it was gonna be in march & it was 3 weeks, but didn't know when exactly or which days of the week. I told my manager about this about 5 weeks beforehand (end of jan/beg of feb) and that I couldn't yet put in a PTO since I didn't know the specific dates yet.

Last week I got the dates (CW10-12). When I told my manager that I applied for the PTO, he said it wouldn't be possible since other coworkers already have PTO during that time (they didn't/it wasn't approved yet when I first talked to him about march). I even offered to work saturdays beforehand, since the internship would only be during weekdays and I knew others would be missing, most importantly to save PTO days tho. May I add that we had 3 full-timers missing during the first 2 weeks of feb, whereas I'm only part-time even.

“I really like being (field of work) & I would love to continue doing that after march. However I need you to understand that I can not let (company) interfere with opportunities regarding my future. (company) is not a company that any of us plan to have a long lasting career in.”

I would assume he understood, what I meant by that. He texted back that he would like to discuss this in person. When I got to work then, it pretty much came down to, that I cannot take time off in march, but I could take as long as I want in april (longer time off while using the same amount of PTO days), which would have been great, but isn't really of any use for me since I needed the time in march.

Anyway, I handed in my resignation at the beginning of my shift this monday (with the intend of just reapplying afterwards actually). “It's a pity, man” was his reaction. That really hurt. He's a nice dude usually, subpar at scheduling and takes the job a little too seriously most of the time, but he's not a bad person. I just left and continued with my shift then.

Now it gets interesting. A few hours later, he comes up to me: “So you really wanna leave us, huh?” and I go “no man, obviously not”. He told me that he cannot accept my resignation and that we can make it work. Maybe he thought I was bluffing when I texted him. Maybe that was what it needed for the higher-ups to agree. IDK. I will now work friday evening shifts (after the internship + I dont have to wake up early on the weekend) and saturday evening shift. Not quite what I was looking for, but I have the time off that I need for the internship, tips are better on friday & saturday + I save 3 more days of PTO, so its fine by me, even though it will be a pretty tough 3 weeks for me.

Anyway, fuck work and fuck this specific bullshit in particular. Glad I got my time off.
