Lowered my pay with not notice

The job duties between the two classrooms are completely identical on paper. How can they possible think it’s legal to change my job title and pay when all my duties are the same? They even threatened to take the difference in pay from last year from my paychecks because they “paid me too much” but they won’t because they’re “nice”. I’m really worried the union will choose not to fight it. They don’t usually fight for special education issues.
