I work for a “nonprofit” thrift store. Going forward, I will call it Badwill. I broke my toe while I wasn’t at work. They know it’s broken because it’s fucking bright purple. Did management at this “good nonprofit” suggest sitting? Nope. I powered through.
I did not get it checked immediately because of American insurance reasons. I’m an idiot, and I thought it wasn’t bad at first. Two weeks go by; the pain is getting worse. I get it checked out at urgent care. Off the jump, urgent care said they absolutely could not give me any paperwork to allow me to sit. They can only give me a note that says I was there that day. I had no idea Doctors are trained to defend capitalism no matter what. They take an X-ray, and the fracture is going into the joint. Still no note. I have to go to a specialist to get it checked. That will take another two days if the weather doesn’t delay everything. I called Badwill today and told them what was going on, and because they are ridiculously understaffed, I offered to go in and help, as long as I could sit now and then. They say, “you can’t sit unless you have a note, and now you’re definitely going to need one to come back at all.” So now the store only has one employee tonight. It’s a fucking thrift store, why is standing so important?
Our area is ~10 stores. And these are the people that can sit.
