Labor laws; required time between shifts?

Im not sure if this is the correct sub but, I’m hoping someone can help. I’m also googling information to try and get an answer but, anyways… my question is: are employers required to give 8 hours off between shifts? I dont know why it’s in my head (and always has been since I started working) that employers are required to give employees 8 hours off in between shifts. I work in a LTC facility 215pm-1045pm and often pick up the night shift so I will be there until 7am. Until recently, our night supervisor was always okay with night shift employees on a double could leave at 6am when day shift arrived. Administration is looking to show their appreciation to us by sending an email “if you work night shift, you are not allowed to leave before 7am or it will be half an occurrence. Me, and a few of my co workers, are trying to fight this stupid stipulation and are looking for that information on time between shifts.
