Warning I am terrible at English although it is my first language.
The Right has been defunding and discouraging the education of the masses for as long as I have been living and I am in my mid thirties. I’m not sure if they really believe it spreads leftists propaganda and/or if they want dumber adults. I just know philosophy 101, basic logic, was the most failed class of my university.
I don’t care about CRT and other stuff when the basics are gone. I taught physics labs for college students of all levels throughout undergrad and grad school and my main focus was to help them problem solve. As the years progressed students have become less computer savvy and have required more help in general. I don’t know how many times I have had to plug in something because a student didn’t notice.
But we have always heard how horrible teaching high school and under is. How the pay is shit, too large of classes, no special education assistance and it isn’t getting any better (looking at you Texas and Florida).
I am so scared for our nation’s children (I don’t have any but still) because the USA is falling behind. Not only in number of producing engineers and other STEM majors but in quality too. Being a grad student meant I was surrounded by people from around the USA and many international students so I was able to compare the groups albeit not the best comparison since there are different standards for getting in.
We need to value ourselves again as a nation and build a better generation that can think. We need to start supporting local government to get problem solving and acceptance(for self and others) taught in schools so we can someday have better thinking adults.
