I’ve been at this job for 5 months and texted my boss around 5 times sick which I made sure to to text 4 hours prior so there could be a replacement. Weirdly enough, every time I called in sick, he removes me that day off the schedule for next weeks schedule. I have Monday and Tuesdays off, when I call off Wednesday, the next Wednesday i’m off of the schedule and he doesn’t add me back. When i’m sick, it coincidentally happens when i’ve already had my two days off. This happened again, I worked 4 days in a row instead of 5 but called in again and he removed me another day which now i’m scheduled for 3 days? I didn’t notice early enough when I called off this week which is my fault but only happened once. So basically I went from being a full time worker to part time.
While I do understand my wrongs on calling sick often, he has never gave me any warning or verbal warnings that I will have consequences for calling in sick so often. I do not just call in sick to rest at home or to party as I have bills to pay and am independent. I genuinely feel mentally or physically sick causing me to not come to work.
This week when I had called in sick was the only time he texted me back saying that we need to talk about my sick days because it’s becoming excessive which I completely understand and still waiting for the conversation.
I am just wondering if my boss is allowed to do this? He is a new manager and everything was fine at first but i’ve noticed he punishes people without giving them warnings and makes them suffer while having NO conversations with his employees.
It’s like as if he’s indirectly trying to get me to quit but my performance at work has NEVER been an issue other than me calling in sick. Other people at my job when they’ve called in sick, they haven’t been penalized as much as me and I am not sure if he thinks it’s because i’m looking for a job (which I am not) but it seems unethical to not talk to your employees and silently punish them..
Also, I live in Canada
