Work places need to offer bereavement leave for pets

I just lost my beloved dog and best friend to cancer over the weekend. While going to work the next day served as a distraction, I still need time to grieve. The only people I know who don’t agree or sympathize with needing time off after losing a pet either never had a pet or never had to put one down.
