Dare to fail your job like you routinely fail yourself

Routinely, I see us heroically gut through illness, fatigue, and grief to meet and exceed the demands of a job.  But rarely do I see us heroically ditch even the least essential job requests to meet the needs our bodies have spent years begging for.  Routinely, I see us skillfully contort our rage and hurt to charm and assuage clients and bosses with the skill of a seasoned diplomat. But rarely do I see that skill and attention used toward those who will be at our funeral one day (let alone toward ourselves, our inner children). Can you try to fail your job like you routinely fail yourself?  Just once? Can you try to meet the rest of life the way you meet your job?  Just once? Just a first step.  Just to see what that might feel like.
