I teach a 1 semester required Econ course in Ohio to 16 year olds. As they are usually treated as the grist in the mill, I want to spend a day (or more!) in our employment unit going over their rights and recommendations. Being on this sub the past two years has really pushed me to do this. Some stuff already on my radar:
TALK ABOUT YOUR WAGE: federally protected right
Sick leave, vacation days, PTO, etc.
Overtime rules
Tipped – employee rules
Right to Organize (and how)
I'm trying to protect these kids because they are so routinely screwed over by employers. Time to raise the awareness of the next generation coming into the workforce. All suggestions appreciated!
