[Advice] Being Required to work 8+ hours outside my salaried 40 hours

I am a salaried worker at an insurance company and work 40 hours a week in Michigan. This week my boss sent out an email saying there is a new requirement to work outside the office at least eight hours trying to drum up extra business. Can they actually require me to do this? As far as I know my contract does not specifically state that they can change full time hour requirements. Anyone with relevant info that can reply would be greatly appreciated.
