A few weeks ago my sister was “laid off” and offered less than a month if severance after it was revealed all of the office staff, including her, were voicing concerns to the board about the director.
I've already told her to talk to an employment lawyer, but I think she needs a kick in the butt. She has a lot going on.. roommate of 7 years and best friend moved out with less than 2 weeks notice and then lost her job. She just got back to work a few months ago after a major surgery.
Anyway, the severance came with an NDA, which I understand a new federal law banning that practice just came out. The employer rescinded that and now the offer includes a statement that she will relinquish her right to file suit. This is illegal, right?? Does she have a leg to stand on?
