Salaried positions seem to be a way to squeeze more work out of people for less pay

Alright. I'm complaining on behalf of someone who's not complaining about being salaried. My sister got her dream job and has recently been working 6 days a week, at least 12 hours a day. She gets paid more than I will when I get out of school. She's not paid for overtime because she's salaried, yet she's expected to pick up the slack for a nepotism hire who doesn't know how to do her work or keep deadlines. Not even going to mention the wild hours she works (getting in late at night to have to go back to work less than 8 hours later). If she were working 40, maybe even 50 hours a week, fine. If she were working 40, maybe even 50 hours a week, fine. The pay is good. At her current hours, she has no time but to come home, sleep, eat (if that) and go back to work. When she is off for a day, she's usually doing laundry all day and dishes and trying to clean up. She already has mental health issues and a work week like she has now is why she quit another job.

The only reason my mom wasn't allowed to work ridiculous hours on her salaried job was because her new boss cracked down on it. I've never had a salaried position so I can't speak on it otherwise but it's insane. It's not sustainable especially not for building a life outside of work and taking care of one's health-physically and mentally.
