A possible situation forced me to apply for supervisory position.

I am in a perfectly pleasant role at my current work, but my supervisor was promoted. I was hoping that my senior colleague would step up and get it. Just in case (With his knowledge), and since this hiring process is notoriously fickle, I had to “put my name in the bowl” as an insurance measure incase all hell broke loose, my colleague gets somehow disqualified, and some crazy unknown person comes in and makes our lives a living hell. The initial score on our applications gave me the upper edge over him, but in the end they selected him, THANK GOD. I am in no way willing to become a manager, unless my colleague suddenly becomes Satan, which hasn't been the case for the while he has been supervisor, he will do just fine.
