Even if the most idealized version of capitalism that exists in the mind of its supporters was 100% accurate. And what they say about us was entirely true. It still wouldn't be a just system.
These are people who think that families suffering under poverty is warranted, due to their mistakes or inadequacies. But I think that people with limited stamina at work, or who may be fiscally imprudent, or got conned into a bad decision early in life, or God-forbid want to do something like raise a family on a blue collar salary, still deserve a life of relative comfort and peace of mind.
Yet in this so-called Christian country our retirees, those with disabilities and mental disorders, families dealing with serious injuries and illnesses, and just about everyone else is thrown to the wolves. Our social safety net is a joke, despite how much money our taxpayers throw at it. Its lagged behind inflation for decades. And people aren't just accepting of that — they support it, they don't get how anyone could possibly disagree.
“The suffering is the point.” — That's what I figure is going on. A lot of people want others to suffer not for being bad people exactly, just for being bad at capitalism.
