I am keeping things kinda vague here so bear with me. I am a fundraiser for a large university and am assigned to a particular unit of that university. That unit has a union for a certain segment of its workforce who have been in negations for almost a year and still don't have a contract. I don't know if a strike is imminent but similar organizations in our city have had successful strikes recently.
How do I, as a colleague and a friend, support this union and their efforts while not being a member, not being eligible to be a member, and, therefore, lack the protections they will have if they go on strike or anything like that.
If they go on strike, would I be considered 'crossing the picket line' if I continue to work? How can I best be of support and solidarity in this position?
