So I (20m) recently quit my job in a bakery. It was awful. For a bit of context of how bad this place was on my probation meeting they said to me I was bad at my job and needed to step up (even though I was constantly working overtime). One of the higher up said “you’ve been off sick 3 times in the past 6 months, that’s a lot” the boss said “you seem to always have problems with your health”. We constantly worked overtime barely had any breaks. I wouldn’t have continued if it wasn’t for my coworkers (not my managers there were assholes). They were so nice.
During my last week I’d had enough. I never got any thanks for working late, infact we got blamed saying we didn’t work hard or quick enough. The managers were assholes constantly shouting and blaming me. On the last day after working 3 hours overtime and just being shouted at for not going fast enough I left. We were severely understaffed. My coworkers on the closing shift also ended up working an extra 2 hours. My question is: why? Why on earth did they do that? That’s on the higher ups for not having more staff on shift, it’s not their responsibility. The next day I didn’t show up because my back was acting up. The boss (who literally did nothing, only showed up for the first 2 hours and the left) could’ve covered for me but of course didn’t. They ended up working an extra 5 hours. Why?
The first time I worked overtime my coworker just said “well it’s part of the job”. No it’s not. If this rich company is too cheap to employ more people then it’s not my problem. This is the same coworker who doesn’t take breaks because she’d “rather finish on time than have a break”. The same girl who came into work for weeks with a slipped disc because she was afraid she’d get fired.
They’re better people then me, I got the hell out of there
