Coworkers leaving, crew becoming barebones, boss getting angrier and more controlling…?

Hey all, like the title states: I work for a small company (between 40-50 employees total) and one of the people in my department just submitted her two week notice. Since I started at this company last summer my boss has been using COVID and “no one wanting to work” as his rationale for why business is so poor and why people keep leaving. That said, he’s older and has absolutely zero ability or interest to communicate effectively outside of his age bracket. We (the younger employees) have tried time and time again to address our concerns with him, but he refuses to acknowledge any issues and simply chalks our concerns up as “the way things are” like there’s nothing we can change. We bring up valid issues and he gets incredibly upset and accuses us of catastrophizing. I’m currently in the process of applying/interviewing elsewhere, but in the meantime…

I’m currently in the process of applying/interviewing elsewhere, but in the meantime I’m hoping for tips on surviving my bosses growing attitude issues? He recently hired an older woman that he worked with decades ago and she has become his annoying right-hand gal (she’s become an unofficial supervisor because she’s the newest and the boss has no logical reason outside of personal preference to give her a supervisory title – but he goes to her for everything.)
