I suspect I will get a lot of backlash for asking this, but I’m honestly curious if this is the new baseline for COL.
My young neighbor complains about the cost of living and talks a lot about not being able to afford to live on his salary. He is a consultant and makes a lot more than I do; I work in education.
He orders a single coffee for delivery from Starbucks almost every morning. He sends his laundry out to a service – all of it not just regular dry cleaning. He hires house cleaners to come clean his apartment. He has all his groceries delivered and has those meal kit things delivered pretty frequently. He Ubers everywhere even though we live one block from the subway station.
So my question is – is this normal now? Do most young people live like this? Is this what people expect to be able to afford as basic cost of living in 2023?
I certainly couldn’t afford to live like that, but maybe I’m doing it wrong! 🙂
Please enlighten me.
