the highs and lows of being a school librarian…..2!

i posted some time back about my sudden (and very unwanted) transfer from the school im currently working at to a new one. today was my first day at the new place. i guess im posting here because i need a little courage in calling my company tomorrow to express my discomfort at some of the aspects of this place. specifically the presentation thing and the organization thing. there are other things, but those two are the most serious ones. see, my job requires me to run monthly presentations to the students about various topics, like earth day or whatever. my last school had me run 26 presentations over the course of 2 weeks, which was already putting me at my limit. my new one expects me to run 32 in 1 week, which i think will genuinely cause me to have a breakdown from the effort. that, and my…

i posted some time back about my sudden (and very unwanted) transfer from the school im currently working at to a new one. today was my first day at the new place. i guess im posting here because i need a little courage in calling my company tomorrow to express my discomfort at some of the aspects of this place. specifically the presentation thing and the organization thing. there are other things, but those two are the most serious ones.

see, my job requires me to run monthly presentations to the students about various topics, like earth day or whatever. my last school had me run 26 presentations over the course of 2 weeks, which was already putting me at my limit. my new one expects me to run 32 in 1 week, which i think will genuinely cause me to have a breakdown from the effort. that, and my unpleasant discovery that the library's organization is the mess, and the temp has spent the last 3 weeks trying to re-organize the whole library, pretty much. im going to have to finish the job. i dont like the idea that i was removed from a perfectly fine library and placed into a mess that i didnt cause.

my replacement did not like the ''26 presentations a month'' thing (and LOTS of other things about my old school) and had several long phone calls with my company firmly putting down her work boundaries and insisting she would not be comfortable with certain tasks. you guys would like her. she ended up convincing the company to speak to the school and they're now reviewing the whole library process.

im hoping if i call my company i'll get similar results. but i have the tendency to cave when push comes to shove. im just worried this school wont be willing to compromise at all and my new supervisor will just tell me useless platitudes like ''you can do it, i believe in you''

and please dont say ''just find a new job'' the job market is horrendous right now
