“Too Honest…”

I didn't get a well earned promotion once because a district manager told me I was “too honest.” I has hired from one rent-to-own company (never, ever again!) to another. The regional manager hired me to work in a store as a manager, but he didn't have an opening just then so he sent me around to all of his area stores in the area to help determine who was slacking or stealing, and generally to help solve his problems at each store. Eventually I grew tired of waiting for a store and of not getting better bonuses, etc… So I asked, and he promised that the next store opening would be mine. When that didn't happen, I met him at his office early one morning. I was there a half hour before he even arrived. He tells me he's not going to give me a store because I'm too…

When that didn't happen, I met him at his office early one morning. I was there a half hour before he even arrived. He tells me he's not going to give me a store because I'm too honest, and he needs someone that will just schill out merchandise like he wants, no questions.
So, I go to leave and with my hand on the doorknob, kinda stunned, really, I turned around and told him he was right. I was too honest to work for somebody like him. Gave him a month to find my replacement. Had no job lined up.
He called me nearly every day, practically begging me to stay. I'd say “nope” and remind him he had xx number of days till I left.
Got a great job, much better for my family right after that. Life is just too short to work with people like that.
