My job is to increase shareholder value.

The third slide in my new hire orientation: “I will work to increase shareholder value.” I work in an extremely dangerous position, my coworkers are assaulted daily, in a dilapidated building, surrounded by houses that I can not afford, and have to commute 75 minutes each way to not earn 35% less. Several of our clients have died in the past few years from preventable causes. My documentation is done by hand because they won't invest in technology. My workload puts people at risk of injury and death. I make a livable wage, but my peers are starving. My job is to increase shareholder value. I am a registered nurse at a children's hospital.
