hey everyone! i posted about this in career advice and career guidance and everyone was super condescending and unhelpful and told me to “just quit and get a new job” but it took me 6 months to get this one
basically, i found out through some research last week that my income falls under “very low income” as classed by HUD. i live with my partner which helps alleviate costs a bit, but we obviously both have our own expenses to take care of and once i take care of mine, my paycheck is totally gone. we have been leaning on food banks to supplement the groceries we’re able to afford, but everything is getting worse and worse with inflation. i need to ask for a raise, but i genuinely have no idea how to.
i work as a case manager in an outpatient children’s mental health facility and i make $15/hr. i do not have a college degree or speak any other languages. my job is very paperwork based and there isn’t much room for creativity or taking on new projects. i haven’t been given any new responsibilities lately either. because of all that, i can’t think of any good way to ask for a raise, but i also can’t keep living like this. i have collectors calling every day, unpaid parking tickets, my car needs so much work, i just can’t afford to take care of anything beyond the absolute basics. any advice on how to approach this would be hugely appreciated!!!
