Boss fired me because I had Covid

I was let go from my company this week after just a few months. Based in the South with the option to work remotely from home. Earlier this month, I had caught COVID for the first time from a job site and it kicked my ass. I popped positive on a Saturday and was scheduled to head to a job site for work the following morning. I was let go from my company this week after just a few months. Based in the South with the option to work remotely from home.

Earlier this month, I had caught COVID for the first time from a job site and it kicked my ass. I popped positive on a Saturday and was scheduled to head to a job site for work the following morning. I explained to my boss what happened and they somewhat understood, but just 2 days later, the boss asked me if I was feeling better and ready to go up. Long story short, boss is a Bible Belter who thinks of COVID as “not existing below Kentucky”. I explained my symptoms to the boss and there was no further communication.

Earlier this week, the boss texted me to come down to the office for a couple weeks for enhanced training before sending me solo. First morning I was down there, I was notified that i was no longer employed with them. During the conversation, it was mentioned that the client had raised a shit storm because I was unable to make it to the site on the scheduled date. The boss said that “sometimes our employees have to make great sacrifices in order to get the job done”.

I was beyond a loss for words on how to respond to that statement. I was cordial for the rest of the exit interview and that comment has been sitting in the back of my mind since.
