So I work at a company that serves food and drinks, I was recently exposed to covid through another coworker and I had a bit of a sore throat and headache. I decided that for safety reasons, I should take a covid test and asked my shift lead if the store had any. Apparently we don’t have them in the store but he had some extra at home so after his shift he would bring me some.
So about 4 hours into my 6 hour shift, my manager comes to relieve the shift lead and he gets me the covid test. I take it as soon as there is a break in customers and sure enough, 15 minutes later I find I’m positive.
I show it to my manager and she isn’t pleased. She asked if I could still work that day since we’ve had so many call ins and I’ve already worked for a few hours that day.
I ask if there’s any role I could fill where I could not be in contact with any food or drinks. She says that actually I would be covering for my coworkers lunch and being the main person with the food/drink. The coworker may not be able to get the lunch if I decide to just leave!
She then said we can start the lunch after she uses the restroom.
I talk with the coworker and explain the situation. Coworker is totally on my side and will be able to stuff some food in their mouths in between customers.
So when my manager gets back from the restroom they try and guilt me into staying for the coworkers lunch, I just flat out say no, I’m uncomfortable making and serving food/drinks while covid positive and I leave.
