I am a cashier at Safeway I have asked this question many times and have been told, by management, that the reason we must stand the entire time we are at the checkstands is because Safeway corporate mandates that we must.
I want everyone to know that this company is run by ghouls who are trying to injure their employees based on nothing but pure hatred of low ladder workers.
Mandated standing damages my ability to provide good customer service as it damages my mental and physical health – but if Albertsons cared about good customer service they wouldn't (also) be deliberately under staffing the stores leading to 2 cashiers and 3 managers running the lines at peak hours.
