After seeing a sign in a cafe for weeks/months (1st red flag), I contacted them to see what's up, kinda for shits and giggles because this sign has been up forever. And I think I know why.
They're looking for a barista and I sent my resume. First two weeks, nothing. Then an email: what's your barista experience? As if they didn't have my resume, I summed up my experience. Four weeks pass. I got an email last Friday: can you come in Monday for an interview? No, I wrote, but I'm available next Thursday. Today's email: can you come in Thursday (no times given)? Talk to the manager. I wrote: Sure can; does the manager have a name? No answer.
Every email from them, I responded right away. But from them, a response is a day or more if not weeks.
I'm not desperate for a job but I'm going to school and could use the money for extras like beer and weed. The lack of professionalism and timeliness of these responses and the lack of information are a few more red flags. I've done lots of food/cafe work and this treatment is very different. Catering company or restaurant: You're available to staff? Meet me (name) at this time and this place for an interview. I don't think I'm God's gift to coffee but basic manners is always appropriate.
If I get a response, which who knows? maybe asking for a fucking NAME of who I'd meet is a bridge too far or what? I aint doing shit on Thursday as it relates to this job. They're prob churning thru workers with this crap. I no longer care to find out and no longer going to that stupid cafe either. Which I liked which is why I applied in the first place. Thanks whoever you are, weirdos.
