I’m based in the UK and mostly work freelance. I was working for a photography studio at the start of this year, but left due to really sketchy business practices – they told models it was free and they were a modelling agency, only to charge them between £800 to £2000 for images. I was also taken on under this impression.
I invoiced them, but it turns out the woman that owns the studio will set up a LTD company, not file any paperwork she needs to – which leads the LTD company to get “struck off” (removed) by the government. By that point, she has another LTD company setup running the same
Studio.
Due to the nature of LTD companies, a director/owner is NOT financially responsible for any of the company so, despite them making a shit load of money, as the company has been struck off I have no legal recourse to claim the money through – as the contracts were signed in the LTD company name.
The studio is still operational, and I’m fully aware that several of the models paid a significant sum for images that I’d taken.
