What to do when you feel management made a mistake in firing someone?

One of my closest colleagues and direct reports was let go last week, unbeknownst to me (I was OOO when it happened and she told me today). I work extremely closely with her, both internally and externally with clients and she continuously overdelivers and outperforms expectations. Our CMO put a random meeting on her cal last week to let her know that she wasn’t performing at a level they expected and they’d be letting her go. No one else at the company has been fired or let go in the last 6 months (only about 100 employees at our company). I am livid about this decision and also offended that as the person who works most closely with her I was never asked about her performance before this decision was made. I obviously don’t want to burn any bridges and plan to stay at this company myself, but how can…

I obviously don’t want to burn any bridges and plan to stay at this company myself, but how can I communicate to our executive team my disappointment at this situation in a professional way? Thoughts and suggestions welcome.
