Is it better to be fired to quit?

For over a year now, I have been working in a work environment that is toxic. Lately, my bosses have been forwarding my errors to HR, and I am starting to feel harassed. If I resign, I will not be eligible for unemployment benefits. On the other hand, if I am terminated, I may be qualified for unemployment benefits and would have documentation to support a quiet termination. However, if I am fired and then go on interviews, I am concerned about how this would reflect on me compared to resigning and citing a family emergency as my reason for leaving.
