I have worked for a college for the last 2 years. Now I am a janitor and we are not employed by the school we are employed by a 3rd party. (Why? Because if they hired us on we would get the benefit of schooling and anything else that goes with it.
Now in December the 3rd party company lost the bid on the contract. So January 1 we are all employed to a different 3rd party company. They came in made us change all of our positions, just the housing they haven't changed academic which they said would do. They have double and even tripled our work loads. They are treating us like robots and we are tired and scared of losing our job because we physically can't handle it. Pay checks are always wrong.
We have reached out to our union we are looking for them to help us and we haven't been helped whatsoever. I have called my union rep and have had many conversations about this. They see its a problem but I learned the union doesn't not have enough people on staff. They are also being over worked and they have so many different people they need to help. They aren't able to get things done because it's like 1 guy fighting a billion dollar company.
So I guess my point is what are unions even good for?
