Work is having us re write our JD

My job is having employees re write their Job Descriptions to more accurately reflect our day to day and to sign a telecommuting agreement. This is at the top of the proposed JD (and not on my original JD): The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. They are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities or requirements of this position. Employees are expected to perform other functions as assigned or requested to further support the organization’s mission. Is this even legal? We got hired under one JD, have been performing/going above and beyond…

Is this even legal? We got hired under one JD, have been performing/going above and beyond according to that, and now they want us to create a new JD based on the work we are actually doing. The work we have been going above and beyond for is now going to be part of “regular responsibility”.

I am in Cali and would appreciate any advice.
