Employer doesn’t want to pay overtime.

I am in Wisconsin, and we are hourly employees. A coworker of mine came in last Friday 4 hours earlier than they were scheduled when it was absolutely unnecessary. Due to this, they ended up with 4 hours of overtime last week. Naturally the owners were not pleased, as this overtime was unauthorized. The owners came in this week and said they would not be paying the overtime rate for that 4 hours. Is the employer obligated to pay time and a half for that 4 hours, or do they not have to since the overtime was unauthorized and not a part of the scheduled shift?
