to add some context to the title, there is a guy in my department at my job who consistently makes sexual jokes towards other men in my department. he made one towards me the other night and I obviously felt very uncomfortable. I was willing to let it slide and chalk it up to a bad attempt at flirting until he did it someone else not even two hours later. I made it known to my boss and to HR, and drafted a letter of resignation. My bosses begged me to come back and promised they would get to the bottom of it. When I explained to them what happened, they dismissed it and said “the guy that did this to you is known for having a dark and fucked up sense of humor. Obviously we don’t want anyone making anyone else feel uncomfortable, but workplace banter is something that we do to vent out some frustration here.”
I agreed to come back because I, overall, enjoy the job and wanted to move on. I was talking to my boss about it earlier tonight and he dismissively said asked if I had a habit of acting before I think. Told him that wasn’t relevant because I’m not the one that screwed up here.
He then went on to lecture me about “women not liking reactionary men. What do you when you and your fiancée fight? Do you dump her and THEN talk it out?”
Obviously that’s incredibly dismissive and disrespectful. Needless to say, I don’t wanna work here anymore. After I told him that, no I don’t dump after my fiancée after a fight because she doesn’t sexually harass me, he said “well you’re still young, you have time to grow out of it.”
I’m quitting this shithole job obviously but I wanna know, what are my legal options here? People need to be held accountable.
