I’ve been in my current company for about seven months. we were told that everyone in the department was getting a base raise of 3% this year. Obviously, this already sucks because it’s less than cost of living increase, it’s not based on performance blah blah. But when I actually got my compensation package update, my boss said that my raise was prorated to be only 1% since I have only been here seven months. I haven’t ever heard of this happening before, although I know bonuses are prorated. It’s not like my goals were prorated or my performance was expected to be any less than people who’ve been here for years. And usually a raise is about future retention, right? Am I my being totally naive about this? And if not, what are some good questions to ask my boss about it? Thanks!
