First off, I am not hear to just start crap or arguments or anything like that. Just simply stating my opinion. I work a state government job that falls under AFSCME. I never had any intentions of getting a government job but that is how life is. So my job title requires a class A CDL. They were required for all applicants. I get the job. Fast forward a few months. CDLs are no longer required for new applicants but I see their pay rate is same as mine. So I spoke to the steward about that. He later came back to me and said that the union said that was not a fight they were looking to take on at the time. Spoke with several other people with same job title in different regions with same issue and they got the same response. So that wasnt a good first impression. Then a new union steward takes over. He got caught stealing state property. And from what I understand, it was quite a bit. Union fought so he could willingly resign with his benefits and retirement. And I see how hard this union fights for the stereotypical lazy state worker. My biggest beef with public sector unions is it doesn't matter how good or bad a worker is. The only thing that counts toward anything is time in. That is all. Now granted, I have never been in a private sector union. And I do know unions do serve a purpose. I don't deny that. But I find myself in the middle to where I am not completely pro union and not completely anti union. This was just my little rant but I am curious if people have had similar issues.
